Deposits...when they're okay, and when they're NOT...

Rate this Entry
So much debate has been covered recently on deposits, but here is a general rundown to keep you gents out of trouble lol...

1. If you are new (little to no references/reviews/new account)
You may be asked to make a deposit to insure you actually show up. Generally this would be $25-50, but rates vary.

2. If you don't want to be screened. Sending a deposit can sometimes help establish you are going to follow thru with your appointment while using discretion.

3. Touring providers often require deposits. For obvious reason, travel is expensive and their time is limited

When to give a deposit? When not to?

DO NOT DO A DEPOSIT IF:

-Provider has very few reviews or presence online. You can easily find info by typing in their phone number, google searching photo, etc. If nothing comes up, or it's conflicting info- PASS

-Provider is very vague about menu/rates/location. This could be a scam, and she may not even be in the city she posted an ad in. PASS

-Provider asks for full donation to be prepaid, or very high deposit amount. Again, $25-50 is average. Otherwise, PASS
----------------------------------------------------------
DO A DEPOSIT IF:

-Provider is well reviewed, their info searched online look credible, and they appear professional.
-Provider is clear what donation is for, and has set a clear date/time of your appt. before accepting.
-Provider does not ask for an excessive amount of $$
----------------------------------------------------------
Remember to let the big head do the decision making and not the little. Otherwise you may find yourself out of money, as deposits are non-refundable. What to do if you pay deposit and get burned? It's incredibly important you write them up anywhere you can to warn others. Just be careful not to include any info that would 'out' them! Happy hobbying!
